This is a collection of various “bits of history” concerning photojournalism and picture editing in the newspaper industry. It includes information about becoming a more effective editor, editing techniques and teachings and photojournalism. My career roots are in editing, especially visual editing. While I started as a copy editor, it was in picture editing that I found my true calling. After my stint as a picture editor, came graphics editor and then management of the photo and graphics editing desks. I also enjoy the opportunity to serve as editor of the National Press Photographers Association‘s annual Best of Photojournalism books.
